NoodleTools How-to Guide: Import a Citation Using an ISBN Number

How to Import a Citation Using an ISBN Number

Overview

If you are citing a book, reference work, or other non-periodical source, use ISBN search to import source information directly into your citation form. The source information is imported from WorldCat (a global catalog of library collections).

Step 1.

Location the "Import" options at the top of the Sources form for your non-periodical source. "ISBN" is selected as a default.

Step 2:

Enter the source's ISBN number in the next field.

Step 3:

Click Search.

Step 4:

In the search results, select the source you used and click Import Selected Source. Note you have alternative methods of search (title or author/editor), and when there are multiple matches you can limit further using publication date.

Step 5:

Review the imported data and make corrections where needed. NoodleTools makes an intelligent first pass over the data to auto-correct the imported elements based on the citation style you are working with, but you may still need to make further tweaks. Click Continue to import the information into the NoodleTools form.
