Personal Budget Project: I. Career

1. Career Summary and Occupational Handbook

Research your chosen career and complete a Career Summary  (see link above so you know what questions will need to be answered)

1.  Click on the link above to download and complete the Career Summary Form using the steps below

NOTE: This will have to be saved to your Financial Algebra Folder on your Network Drive and opened from the File Explorer desktop application. Do not open the document as a webpage; it needs to be opened in Adobe Acrobat Reader. 

a.  Save the file as "Career Summary - last name first initial". This must be printed and included in your project. 

b.  Complete all questions in complete sentences.

2.  Questions 1 - 3 will be answered by researching your chosen career in the following link: OCCUPATIONAL OUTLOOK HANDBOOK.  

3.  Cut and paste into a google document information about your career. Explore beyond the summary page to find more detailed information available under various tabs. 

      The following information must be included:

  • Nature of the work (what they do)
  • Training/qualifications (How to become one) 
    • Note:  This tab also includes information on the personal qualities that enhance career choice.  See:  “Important Qualities”
  • Job Outlook

4.  Save this document as “Occupational Outlook – last name first initial

5.  Adjust font to minimize paper usage, then print.  (This should be a 2-3 page document with this information.) Print and include this documentation in your project binder.

6.  Highlight the information in the documentation that was used to answer each question

NOTE:  Printed documentation is required.

2. College or Career Training

Questions 4-7 will be answered by researching colleges or training programs. 

1. Go to a college (or training center) website of your choice.

2. Determine the cost:

  • Find the cost for tuition, fees, and books for one year
  • Multiply by the number of years you need to attend to earn your degree or complete your training
  • Do undergraduate separate from graduate school.
  • Show all your calculations on the Career Summary 
  • Use this information to answer questions   # 4-7 on the Career Summary.

3. Print documentation of this information and include it in your project binder.

(Note: If you plan on taking out student loans, estimate the total amount of loans for #6 on the Career Summary worksheet. No proof of evidence of scholarships or loans is required, but indicate this in your response for question #7.)

3. Salary Information

1. For questions #9 & 10, go to the following link:  Occupational Employment Statistics  to look up the starting salary for your chosen career. 

2.  Select the state that you intend to live in.

3. Click on the Occupational Title for your career and print the first page (only) to get salary range and starting salary (25% percentile) to include in your project

4.  Use this information to answer questions #9 & #10 on the Career Summary.  

5.  The Career Summary sheet should now be complete. Print this Career Summary and include in your project.
