ACT: Digital Literacy: Search Strategies

Before you find information...

How do you search for what you need?

Open a Google Doc and begin to brainstorm the following:

1. WHAT DO YOU KNOW?

Write an overview. What do you already know about your topic? Write it down. All of it. This will give you a place to begin and an idea of how much work is ahead of you.

2. WHAT DO YOU NEED TO LEARN?

Make a list of research questions that will give your project direction.
Example: How effective is Internet Activism?

Use your questions to make a list of keywords. These should be used when you start your research, especially with online resources.

Use your key words to make a list of synonyms as well as related, broader, and narrower search terms.
Example: The key word or term in the example question is Internet Activism. A synonym would be cyberctivism and a related term might be social media.
