All juniors are asked to choose an American author and write a 4-6 page paper that examines the individual, the time period in which he or she wrote, and his or her work(s). You must examine at least one novel, two short pieces or three poems. Your thesis should cover the author's life or time period and the piece(s) of literature you are analyzing. The final product must be in MLA format and include a Works Cited page.
The paper wil have three parts:
I. Biography/Time period
II. Your analysis of literature by the author
III. Secondary support - synthesis of primary text and secondary criticism
These are your tasks. Your teacher will assign due dates for each item.
1. Choose topic
2. Begin research/ formulate working thesis
3. Take notes/ prepare note cards
4. Refine thesis and write outline
5. Review outline with teacher
6. Write a first draft including Works Cited
7. Submit a final draft with Works Cited
